VISION OF GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT
  • The department will develop in each student, art of imagination, critical thinking, enthusiasm, build necessary skills to be a good geoscientist and to be the lifelong lover of mother earth.

  • To facilitate integrated and interdisciplinary approach in their learning.

  • To Establish the Department of Geology as the centre for research  in this part of the country.

  • Develop a greater awareness of Earth Sciences in the general public through outreach programs.
MISSION OF GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT
The department seeks to provide the basic and fundamental concepts in Geology through our educational, research, and outreach programs in order to produce well-trained, young geoscientists capable of responding to societal needs.
ABOUT GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT
 

The Department of Geology is one of the oldest departments and is well known in this part of the country for its academic excellence. Department of Geology as a Major subject teaching for B. Sc., started during 1965 by Prof. S. S. Navani.  Apart from Prof. Navani, the department has seen Professors' Dr. D. I. Deendar, Dr. V. H. Uttangi, Prof. S. V. Pauskar, Prof. R.N.Kulkarni and Prof. H.G.Patil (all are retired). At present Prof. A. K. Mense (Principal), Dr. P. T. Hanamgond (Head of the Department) with couple of SKE Society appointees, are putting their efforts in imparting Geological education to the students.

 

The department has a well set Museum with exhotic and rare specimen of zeolites (most of them are donated by Mr.M.F.Makki), minerals, rocks, Ore minerals and fossils. 

 

At present the department has undergraduate course (B.Sc) with Geology as an optional subject, chosen among three subjects. The popular combinations are - Chemistry-Botany-Geology; Chemistry-Computer Science-Geology; and Physics-Maths-Geology.

 

The students are taken to field study once in every semester for understanding the field geology.

 

Dr.Hanamgond is active in Coastal Research of Uttara Kannada and Southern Maharashtra Coast, whcih he has carried his research through major research projects funded by DST, UGC & MoES. He has published many national & International publications.

The alumni of the department are spread over many parts of India.

The college has MoU's with KLE's BMK Ayurveda Mahavidyalya, Belagavi; and Gogte-Joglekar College, Ratnagiri.
